A couple of mine just had a hint of a problem - one at the top of the L and the other at the top of the T. Not sure if they were printed that way or if it was a shipping problem. No problem for me though. The fellow who is going to refinish my cabinet took those to test on the color samples he is making. (We are going to make my 1955 820C cabinet match the color of the unrefinished 1957 820C as close as possible. Original finish was a couple of shades darker.)

From straight on, the gold color looks pretty close to the original. Original is a little more "tannish yellow". Viewed from an angle, the gold has a bit of a green tinge. Though we think it may be due to the backing paper. Will see when the samples are done. Note that age may be a factor when comparing the color of a 55 y/o decal that has been through a lot to a brand new one...

I wonder if keeping them in water for a long time dissolved the glue? I'll try mine when I get a chance.

Here's a comparison between the AUG decal and the original on a 618C cab. Defect on decal is an artifact of my camera.

Line weight on the black is a bit different but overall character is convincing.

The color difference is probably due in part to age and the darkening of the varnish that was applied over the decal 57 years ago. I think the brilliant gold of the new one is a good starting point.

I ordered a pr of custom 618 type cabs for 755As yesterday since I only have one original box. These will get the decal treatment. What I'd really like to know is how did they get that subtle silver hammertone lacquer finish! EPA probably outlawed that process...
